The Federation Cup final between Bayelsa Queens and Sunshine Queens will no longer hold on August 30 as earlier scheduled with a new date to be decided in a few days by the Organizing Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation.

NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, explained that the postponement is as a result of the National teams’ involvement in next month’s All-Africa Games.

“It is true that at the draw ceremony for the national finals of the Federation Cup, the NFF had picked August 30 as date for the grand finale. But a number of factors have now combined to make the date unrealistic.

“Yes, we have the finalist teams in both the men and women events. But our Super Falcons and the U-23 men’s team will travel to Brazzaville for the All-Africa Games at about the same day, and a number of the teams involved in the grand finale have players in the two teams.”

Sanusi assured that the NFF Organizing Committee, headed by 1st Vice President Seyi Akinwunmi, will hold a meeting soon to determine the new date.

“The 11th All-Africa Games will end on September 19. We will pick a date for the Federation Cup grande finale after this date, but most likely the date would be towards the end of September.”
