Joy Bokiri and Tochukwu Oluehi were the heroines of Bayelsa Queens and Sunshine Queens respectively as both sides booked their tickets to the final of this year’s Federation Cup on Wednesday.
Confluence Queens had knocked out defending Champions Rivers Angels in the quarter-final and had become favourites to clinch the title but fell to a 90th minute Bokiri strike in their first ever Federation Cup semi-final.
The Kogi-based side have their goalkeeper, Equatorial Guinea international Ruth Sunday to thank for not conceding earlier but just when the game tried to slip into penalties, Nigeria U-20 international and Bayelsa Queens captain, Bokiri hit the right note for her team to sing the victory song.
In the other semi-final of the day, penalties were needed to settle matters after a goalless draw in regular time.
Nasarawa Amazons and Sunshine Queens were meeting for the second consecutive time in the Federation Cup semi-final and like in 2014 the Queens from Akure emerged victorious after penalties.
Tochukwu Oluehi saved three penalties to help her side beat Confluence Queens 3-2 and seal their place in the Federation Cup final for a second time in a row.
So the stage is SET!
It’s Bayelsa Queens taking on Sunshine Queens at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on August 30 for a new Federation Cup Champion to be crowned.
Both sides are yet to concede a goal thus far.
