NWPL: Keeping tabs on WALKOVERS

NWFL

It’s been one week, one (or more) walkover in this season’s Nigeria Women Premier League – which seems more like ‘ONE WEEK, ONE TROUBLE’ if we take a deeper look – and expectedly Week 11 just could not be left out of the party.

Though only four matches were fixed for Saturday August 8, with two more to be decided on Sunday and the other two postponed till further notice, two walkovers were recorded. Then I thought of making this compilation before I lose count of the Walkovers we’ve already had this season after 8 Matchdays.

It was however heart wrenching to see that Pelican Stars, who were runners-up last season, have forfeited the most number of matches (4) this season – including home and away to rivals Rivers Angels. Following their performance last season, one would have thought they would give Rivers Angels a sterner battle for the title this time around, but in their pathetic state, they now lose at home like they did today (Saturday) against Sunshine Queens.

With her brace, Falconets’ Aminat Yakubu ensured they bit their Calabar dust as Sunshine Queens enjoyed a 3-1 victory.

Another Falconet, Yetunde Adeboyejo became the second player to bang in a hat-trick in the on-going NWPL season. The goals helped her side, Bayelsa Queens spank Osun Babes 4-0 at home today too. Osun Babes’ Edewor Precious got the first hat-trick earlier in the season in a 3-2 victory over Ibom Angels.
