Super Falcons striker Ini Umotong scored a brace in Portsmouth ladies’ 4-3 away defeat at C&K Basildon in the FA English Women’s Premier League.
Ini, who has been in a prolific form this season, scored two quick goals in less than a minute to put the visitors in front 2-1, after Amy Nash had given the hosts the lead.
Portsmouth continued to dictate the game with Molly Clark, Lucy Quinn and Umotong combining on several occasions but failed to convert their chances.
However, it was Karissa Rodney who found space in the defense of Pompey, before chipping the ball over the goalkeeper for Basildon’s equalizer before half time.
On resumption in the second half, both teams showed flashes, with Clark almost scoring directly from the corner but the ball hit the top of the crossbar.
On the run of play, the hosts were awarded a penalty after Pompey’s goalkeeper Courtney Trodd was adjudged to have brought down a Basildon player.
Stacey Little stepped up to send goalkeeper Trodd the wrong way in converting the resultant penalty, as Basildon went ahead, 3-2 for the second time in the game.
Lucy Quinn scored a screamer from 35-yards out, which left the goalkeeper with no answer, as Pompey equalized. But the hosts will go on to win the game, as Rodney netted her second goal after been assisted by substitute Maegan Doyle.
