Super Falcons defender Faith Ikidi at the weekend exchange marital vows with Mr Nick Michael at Trinity Covenant Bible Church in Bayelsa State.
Faith plays for Pitea IF of the Swedish Damallsvenskan and made her first appearance for Nigeria in 2004. She gone on to win 54 caps for Nigeria and is indeed blessed with all the techniques a modern day defender should possess.
Aside from her on-field prowess, her wedding day was a star studded event which saw many Super Falcons players and teammates alike brave it all to send the Nigeria international off in style.
In attendance were Sunny Iwegbu, South South chairman of Women Football Development Association of Nigeria, ex- Falcons players like Yinka Kudasi, Lorreta Sadoh, Aisha Yusuf who is now a coach in Finland. v
Current players like Ngozi Okobi and Francisca Ordega of Washington Spirit of U.S, Gift Ele Otuwe of Minisk FC Belarus, players of Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens, Delta Queens, Sunshine Queens and of course the Ladies March crew was not left out .
The blushing bride was on hand to grant us an exclusive interview on what the day means to her and surprise surprise, her wishes for the Super Falcons.
Ladies March : Congrats Faith for a day like this in your life
Faith Micheal : Wow, I thank God for a day like this and how He made it possible for such a day to come to pass in my life.
Ladies March : Can you tell us why you chose Nick ?
Faith Michael : Well, he is a friend I have known for a long time through a very good friend of mine. We met and i said okay, let me give (the relationship) a try and to God be the glory, it worked out!.
Ladies March : We can see so many people here today, both ex- players. What do you have to say about their presence?
Faith Micheal : Wow! I am so happy seeing all of them and don’t know how to appreciate them for coming. Some of them came in from Europe just because of my wedding. I am (truly) excited about it and love them with a ”customized” love. I wish them every good thing in life. As they have come to celebrate with me, celebration won’t cease in their life.
Ladies March : Now that Faith is married, will she still be available for the Super Falcons ?
Faith Michael : Of course. I am still playing and if I am called which I am praying to be called because next year is African Women Championship, I will gladly honor it.
Ladies March : For months now, No coach has been named for Super Falcons. What kind of coach do you think we need as Super Falcons coach ?
Faith Michael : Well I don’t think I have to mention names but I want the Nigeria Football Federation to bring a coach that would teach us football, techniques of football because that’s what we are missing. We have a lot of talented players, when I watched the last world cup,I was like ”wow, look at skills”. Teams are afraid of meeting us but what happens when we get onto the pitch? What is the strategy? What happens after the first half ? We need a coach that knows that second half of a match is a different ball game. That’s the kind of coach I pray the NFF will name for Super Falcons to restore Falcons back (to our glory days).
Ladies Match : We wish you all the best in your marriage Faith.
Faith Michael : Thank you so much.
