They may not have been able to retain their double last season since the Federation Cup title eluded them, but reigning Nigeria Women Football League Champions, Rivers Angels are leaving no stone unturned in their preparation for the 2015/2016 season due to commence on February 20.
In spite the many challenges they faced last season which included being owed sign-on fees and allowances as well as the exodus of key players, the Blue Angels refused to be deterred and did not let the league title slip through their fingers like the Federation Cup did. All thanks to their rigorous preparations.
Now, ahead of the the new season, the Edwin Okon led side are at it again. For two straight weeks they have been training and screening assiduously to ensure they maintain their dominance in the coming season.
LadiesMatch was live at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt to catch a glimpse of their training activities and also monitor potential new signings for the NWFL Champions.
Coach Okon was in his calm mood of monitoring, scribbling and taking critical performance statistics on paper of all participating players, as his junior coaches fielded their best legs, mixing them with potential new players in a full match game.
The atmosphere was tensed as sparks of individual skills and excellent footwork from current players of the squad was a delight to watch, while new players intending to sign for the club did not disappoint as well.
Coach Regina Akaraonye led-team won the match with a screamer from 18 yards by pacy Mercy Amanze against the Coach/Captain Mamuzo Atu led-team.
In a brief interview after the match Coach Edwin Okon confirmed that he wants to get the best out of his players at all times because many other NWFL teams want to beat a top team like Rivers Angels FC.
