South African women’s national team and coach Vera Pauw concluded their successful tour with a 2-2 draw against Cameroon at the Omnisport Stadium in Limbe.

Pauw rewarded the young player Linda Motlhalo (17) with a start after coming on as substitute and scoring a goal from the last friendly match against the home team.

Motlhalo scored the second goal in the second half to end the game and has now scored two goals in two matches.

“We have the best footballers who stood firm against a strong team who have size advantage. Cameroon didn’t give us any chances but we still prevailed,” said Coach Pauw.

“These games are important for us to create our value and we need to play more of them.” Pauw concluded.

Skipper Janine van Wyk was honoured will a small ceremony after the game for achieving 125 caps playing for the women’s national team making her the first South African player with 125 caps representing the national team.

Sasol Banyana Banyana will play Botswana in the Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) formerly known as African Women Championship (AWC) on 8 April. Banyana will then host Botswana on 12 April for the return leg.
The 10th edition of Africa Women Cup of Nations will be hosted in Cameroon from 19 November to 3 December 2016.
