Ladiesmarch was LIVE at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin City to witness the unfortunate turn-out of events that led to the abandonment of the pre-season friendly match between Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens on 3 March.
The centre referee (name withheld) was so unprofessional in his officiating by making so many bad calls.
The opening goal of the match was scored in the 5th minute by Edo Queens player, Joy when she pounced on a spilled ball by Bayelsa Queens goalkeeper, Alaba to put the hosts ahead.
Bayelsa Queens responded swiftly in the 15th minute through Patience Kalu’s well executed free kick.
From the 20th minute to the 35th minute of the 1st half, the centre referee was found wanting, as he made many controversial decisions and awarded so many free kicks to the host, Edo Queens.
He also gave yellow cards to five Bayelsa Queens players within 15 minutes; captain Joy Bokiri, Charity Ifenkoh, Igwe Uzoamaka, Esther Ugbede and Patience Kalu.
Precisely at the 38th minute, Bayelsa Queens player, Igwe Uzoamaka tactfully stole the ball from her opponent with minimal contact only for the centre referee to blow for a foul and then flashed a second yellow card in Igwe’s face.
Instantly, the technical adviser of Bayelsa Queens, Rollandson Odeh, the backroom staff and Bayelsa Queens players got agitated and protested.
The match was abandoned by the Bayelsa Queens team who had felt the centre referee was bias in his officiating.
MATCH ABANDONED: Edo Queens(Joy 5′) 1 : 1 Bayelsa Queens(Patience Kalu 15′)
NO POST-MATCH INTERVIEW was done due to the tensed atmosphere of the abandoned match.
