Zambia Edge Out Namibia for AWCON spot

The Senior Women’s football team of Zambia have progressed for the final round of qualifiers for the 2016 CAF Africa Women Cup of Nations after playing a 2-2 draw with Namibia in the return leg, final round at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Friday.

Zambia had won the first leg 3-1 a forthnight ago courtesy of goals from Noria Sosala and Grace Chanda, while Lorraine Jossob scored the consolatory goal for Namibia.

In the return leg, Chanda gave the visitors a two-goal cushion after 47 minutes before Zenatha Coleman pulled one back for the hosts from the penalty spot on the 50th minute following a handball incident inside the box by Martha Tembo.

Coleman again found the net for Namibia on the 82nd minute but it was not enough, as both sides settled for a draw, which gave Zambia a 5-3 aggregate victory.

Zambia will now face the winner between Tanzania and Zimbabwe for a place at the 10th edition of the women’s football event in Cameroon.
