Following up the cancelled friendlies some days ago between Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels, Delta Queens this time hosted Bayelsa Queens in Kwale, Delta State as a build up to the kick-off of the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL).
At the blast of the whistle to start the game, these teams had a go at each other, testing their mettle on the field of play.
Exactly 58 seconds from kick off, Bayelsa Queens player, Rafiat Sule missed her chance at goal from a connecting pass from Captain, Joy Bokiri only for an intercepting save from Delta Queens goalkeeper, Rita.
Bayelsa Queens were on the offensive but Delta Queens were no push-overs as they defended with their lives. Slowly, the hosts, Delta Queens got their groove on as they got control of the midfield towards the latter part of the first half. Coach Rolandson Odeh of Bayelsa Queens and Coach Daniel Evumenado of Delta Queens were not left out of the actions as they were shouting and dishing instructions from the touchline to their girls on the field of play.
The second half was much better as both teams slugged it out in the midfield for ball possession. After much pressure, the deadlock was broken at the 52nd minute when Bayelsa Queens player, Osarenome Igbinovia pounced on a rebound ball with a half-volley shot to put the ball at the back of the goal with Delta Queens goalie, Rita ball watching.
Delta Queens executed some quick counter attack offensive play whenever the visitors lost ball possession but were not clinical upfront. Several fouls were committed as the center referee dished out lots of yellow cards to both teams who played a high tempo game.
At the 72nd minute, a powerful shot by Bayelsa Queens, Osaronome was denied by the upright from the right wing of play only for the rebound ball to fall in perfectly on the feet of Bayelsa Queens, Patience Sule on the left who beat past her marker to shoot a low plier-driving shot to beat Delta Queens goalie, Rita yet again for the second goal of the game for the visitors.
As the second half progressed, Bayelsa queens coach, Rolandson substituted goal scorer Rafiat Sule to introduce Blessing Dabrinze to assist in the defensive play in the midfield leaving Captain Joy Bokiri upfront as a measure to quell the continuous offensive play by the hosts, Delta Queens.
FT: Delta Queens 0 : 2 Bayelsa Queens(Osarenome Igbinovia 52’, Patience Sule 72’)
