Amarachi Ojinma scored her second league goal as Rivers Angels picked up their second league win on Match Day 2 of the Nigeria Women Premier League at the Yakubu Gowon stadium yesterday over Sunshine Queens of Akure.
After a fruitless first half, the in-form striker broke the deadlock in the second half when she headed home a cross delivered by Mabel Effiom in the 66th minute.
Shola Oyewusi then scored from close range from a set piece by Mercy Amanze in the 86thminute as the NWPL Champions ran away with a 2-0 victory
Coach of Sunshine Queens, Mathew Wemino believes her side can still get better as the league progresses
“Today’s game was not too bad, at least my girls put in their best in this game”
“We were able to discover some mistakes which we will go back home to work on and it’s not over yet, this is just the beginning of the league, we’re still going to perform very well” said Wemino.
On his part, Technical Adviser of Rivers Angels, Edwin Okon praised his girls for the victory.
“I think am the happiest man because to play three matches in one week was not easy, even boys cannot don’t find it easy due to the fatigue”
“They couldn’t play that which you know Rivers Angels to play because of fatigue but am glad they picked the three points which is more important” said Okon.
