Goals from Amarachi Ojinma and Amaechi Ojini in each half propelled league champions, Rivers Angels to yet another win, 2-0 over FC Robo in a week 4 game of the Nigeria Women Premier League.
Ojinma struck in the 20th minute to record her third goal in 3 appearances for the host via a through ball from central defender, Osinachi Ohale.
Then came the team’s super sub, Ojini who slotted in a brilliant pass from Glady’s Akpa on the hour mark making it her second in 4 appearances to seal a remarkable win at the Yakubu Gowon stadium.
Despite the win, Technical Adviser of Rivers Angels, Edwin Okon said he was not satisfied with the way his girls played.
“I have to thank God for the victory but am not in any way satisfied with the play of the team.
“This is not the way we play and if we don’t step up our game, I don’t think I’ll be happy with it,” he lamented.
Okon went further to commend the fighting spirit of his opponent.
“Naturally they’re a good side; they’ve been together for about six years now and don’t move to other teams.
“I expected a good fight from them, right from the Challenge cup till now but we should be able to step up our games based on our reputations,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, coach of FC Robo, Emmanuel Osahon believes his girls weren’t bad on the day.
“It’s wasn’t a bad game, I don’t have any cause to complain or anything. They’re young girls and tried, you can see the way the game went, so it’s not a bad game at all.
“At least I’m learning and I’m seeing something in them.I believe they have prospects,” said Osahon.
Up next for Rivers Angels is the Round of 16 of the Women’s Federation Cup against Capital City Doves in Makurdi on Thursday, June 16.
