One can count on one hand the number of players who have donned and reached a 100 caps for the South Africa Senior Women National Team jersey.
Banyana Banyana player Amanda Dlamini marked her 100th appearance in style after taking on World cup and Olympic champions, USA.
Dlamini has joined an exclusive list of players such captain Janine van Wyk (130) and Nompumelelo Nyandeni (124) and first African footballer to score over 100 goals for the national team Portia Modise (124), former 2008 CAF Women Football Player of the Year Noko Matlou (123).
The down to earth midfielder is not letting her individual success cloud the team’s goal of parting a good show at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
“At the end of the day this is not about me but the team. We must not lose sight of why we are here. Personal glory comes after the team. We are here to prepare for the Olympics Games, we are here to represent our country and we are here to defend our flag – once we have done that, only then can we start celebrating personal glories,”
The match between USWNT and SAWNT played on July 9 in Chicago saw the Banyana lose 1-0 via a Crystal Dunn’s strike in the 35th minute.
