Ampem Darkoa Ladies have been crowned champions of the National Women’s League for the first time in the club’s history after beating defending champions Sekondi Hasaacas Ladies 1-0 at the Cape Coast stadium on Sunday.
The two sides locked horns in the final after topping the Northern and Southern Zones respectively.
The Techiman based club had lost to the same opponent, Hasaacas ladies, last season, but this time, Grace Asantewaa’s goal in the 65th minute was enough for Ampem Darkoa Ladies to emerge champions for the first time since the league’s inception.
Sekondi Hasaacas Ladies have been champions in the previous three league seasons.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies lost to Fabulous Ladies in the Sanford Women’s FA Cup semi-finals through penalty shootouts last week prior to the final.
Princella Adubea finished as top scorer of the National Women’s League 2016 season with 16 goals in fifteen games for the current champions whilst her team mates Grace Asantewaa and Evelyn Yeboah were named best player and best goalkeeper respectively.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies also carted home a cash prize of GH¢10,00.00.
