International friendly games planned for the Black Queens of Ghana ahead of the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations have been called off, the Management Committee Chairperson has confirmed.
Ghana were to take on their Ivorian counterparts on Friday and the Bayana Bayana of South Africa on Sunday but Leanier Addy says both teams couldn’t travel because they were expecting Ghana to foot their bills..
The Sports Ministry’s financial handicap is reportedly responsible for the setback.
“Yes the game couldn’t come off. Cote d’Ivoire could not come and the South Africans say they are playing Zimbabwe. They were expecting us to foot their bills before they come but there is no money,” Addy said.
However, the Queens moved to Cape Coast on Friday to play local select side and continues to Takoradi to face another select side before moving to Prampram for the final preparation to Cameroon.
The AWCON which starts on November 19 sees Ghana tied in a group B alongside reigning champions Nigeria, debutantes Kenya and returnees, Mali.
