Nigeria international Francisca Ordega is set to become the first African to feature in the Westfield W-League where she would be defending the colours of Sydney FC for the remainder of the 2016/17 season.
The two-time League Champions, on their website, confirmed the signing of Ordega, who only last month was selected in the team of the tournament after helping Nigeria claim the Women’s African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
She has played the past two seasons at Washington Spirit in the US women’s league, scoring the winning goal that secured their place in last season’s NWSL national playoffs final.

“I’ve heard great things about Sydney FC and the Westfield W-League and I’m really excited to be in Australia for the first time,” Ordega told her new club’s website.
“I’ve played against the Matildas and I know the quality of players Australia produce. I know it’s going to be a challenge playing in the Westfield W-League but it’s one I’m looking forward to.”
The 23-year-old played against the Matildas in the World Cup in Canada last year, where Nigeria lost 2-0 to Australia — with both goals scored by her new teammate at Sydney, Kyah Simon.
Sky Blues Head Coach Dan Barrett expressed excitement at Ordega’s qualities and hopes to play her in Friday night’s home clash against the Brisbane Roar at Lambert Park.
“Francisca is an exciting player who is going to bring a lot of attacking flair and speed to our team,” he said.
“She’s a player who’s got that cutting edge and is the finishing touch to what is already a fantastic attacking squad.
“She’s gives us another dimension up top, she likes to get in behind the back four and is an attacking weapon who brings something different to the squad.
“She will give us a huge lift as we head into the business end of the season.
