The National Women’s League (NWL), Ghana’s premier division, is on course to be televised after the League Board disclosed they are in advanced negotiations with stakeholders on broadcast rights for the season’s campaign.
The fifth season of the NWL is scheduled to kick off on April 29, where champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies, will be bidding to defend their title.
Since its inception, the 16-team league has enjoyed very little publicity and financial support.
Rosalind Amoh, Chairperson of the Women’s League Board, revealed that details of the deal are being finalize ahead of the start of the league, next week.
“We were informed from the beginning that StarTimes is coming on board as the media partners of the league,” she said on CitiSports.
“Basically we could see some of the matches being telecast but we are unsure whether the games will be delayed or will be shown live.
“We have been informed about it all the same and it was based on these discussions that we agreed with the board that some of the pitches that are not up to standard will have to be (excluded) because it makes no sense to use those surfaces when we are seeking to improve our outlook.”
