Confluence Queens unbeaten status in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) came to an end on Wednesday, after losing to Edo Queens in a week four clash at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
In a pulsating game overshadowed by downpour, the hosts took the lead after 19 minutes through Vivian Uwandi who slotted home with a superb effort; which saw Confluence conceding their first league goal of the term.
Edo Queens continued to mount pressure in search of more goals and they were rewarded when Jumbo Nnegi capitalised on a defensive error to increase their advantage.
Chidinma Anuruo found the net to reduce the deficit for The New Direction Queens, Confluence, but Mouka Slyva scored right on the stroke of half time to seal the comfortable victory for Edo Queens.
Elsewhere, Charity Reuben’s brace was not enough to safe visiting Ibom Angels from going down 3-2 to Robo Queens at the Legacy Field in Surulere, Lagos.
Esther Ndubisi, Monday Gift netted and Rasheedat Ajibade were on the scoresheet as Robo Queens claimed maximum points on home ground.
In other results, the much discussed Northern derby saw big-hitters Nasarawa Amazons records a massive 2-0 win at Sa’adatu Amazons. The debutantes Sa’adatu are yet to register a a point.
Sunshine Queens played out a 2-2 draw with Bayelsa Queens and Osun Babes were held to a goalless draw by Adamawa Queens.
Thursday’s fixtures was day the draws came pouring in with Abia Angels held to a disappointing goalless draw at home to reigning Champions Rivers Angels while Pelican Stars and Delta Queens played out a 1-1 draw.
