On their club anniversary, FC Robo Queens picked a 3-2 comeback home win against a fighting Ibom Angels at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium.
In front of 526 spectators in Lagos, Angels took a deserved away lead, early in the fifth minute through Charity Reuben’s low finish, after Glory Ogbonna headed the ball from the halfway line.
Rooted to the bottom of Group B, the Ogbonda Whyte-tutored side begun the match with high pressing and vital interceptions but couldn’t maintain the intensity with Robo picking up loose balls.
With three minutes added to the first 45, Robo won a freekick just two minutes into additional time. A sublime Mabokanje Fehintola delivery saw Esther Ndubisi peel off her marker and head into the corner. The pressure was put back on Ibom Angels.
The second half begun as if the first never ended, with Robo – seemingly buoyed by the late equalizer and some half time talk – charging with conviction and looked the more likely to score.
Minutes after frantically clearing a ball off the line, Angels were yet undone by another set-piece, this time, Osarenoma Igbinovia failed to spot Gift Monday’s run off her with the former COD Ladies forward heading in, cool as a cucumber.
The Lagos fans were once again on their feet when Rasheedat Ajibade produced a long-range stunner to seal the game on 65 minutes at 3-1.
However, the Angels still had some fight in them as Charity Reuben got her brace of the game with fifteen minutes left to play. At this point, it was game on!
Chance after chance for Ibom Angels went begging before FC Robo Queens held on for successive home victories.
Robo Queens: D W L W – 7 points – 1st spot, Group A league leaders.
Ibom Angels: L D L- 1 point (with a game in hand) – 7th spot, Group A bottom team.
