Super Falcons defence-marshal Onome Ebi have been nominated alongside her teammates Desire Oparanozie and Asisat Oshoala for the Queen of the Pitch award of the Nigeria Pitch Awards.
The organisers of the awards on Tuesday, May 16th revealed the nominees of the various categories, which saw Ebi leading the race for the top prize.
She was arguably the most outstanding Nigeria lady footballer in 2016 following her exploits and impressive performances that saw her winning titles for both country and club.
Ebi, 34, was part of Nigeria’s Super Falcons conquering squad that won an unprecedented eighth Africa Women Cup of Nations with a 1-0 victory over hosts Cameroon at the Stade Ahmaduo Ahidjo in Yaoundé.
She claimed a treble; the Belarusian Premier League Women, Women’s Cup and Super Women’s Cup with FK Mink; having scored six goals in 17 matches.
In other categories; interim coach of Super Falcons, Florence Omagbemi was pitted with Gernot Rohr and Imama Amapakabo for the Coach of the Year gong.
Omagbemi made history by becoming the first Nigerian woman to win the AWCON both as a player and coach after guiding the Falcons to victory in Cameroon.
Osinachi Ohale formerly of Rivers Angels, now at Vittsjo GIK; is in contention with Chioma Wogu and Rafiat Sule for the Most Valuable Player in the Nigeria Women Football League.
While the Super Falcons, Dream Team and Enugu Rangers International vie for the Club/Team of the Year award.
This year’s awards ceremony which happens to be the 4th edition will take place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom on June 10th, hours after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and South Africa.
