An impressive display of ravishing dribbles and beautiful set-piece plays was how Patience Kalu appreciated her introduction into the starting lineup of her new club, Rivers Angels, for the first time this season.
Kalu lasted the entire duration of the match and helped the Jewel of Rivers to a 2-0 victory over Sunshine Queens at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium on Matchday 5.
“I am very happy because it is my first time of starting a match (for Rivers Angels) and I believe this is the beginning of my success to Rivers Angels because I have always liked Rivers Angels,” she said.
Having started off as an unused substitute in Rivers Angels’ season opener against Ibom Angels, Kalu saw 14 minutes in their 3-0 demolition of FC Robo after replacing Cynthia Aku in the 76th minute.
The former Bayelsa Queens star then came off the bench again – this time, in the 67th minute – in the Jewel of Rivers’ away draw against Abia Angels in Umuahia.
However, she was given the nod by coach Edwin Okon to start on Matchday 5, and in spite of not getting a goal, her brilliant performance all 90minutes could not be ignored.
“I know already that Rivers Angels are a very big club and they have quality players,” Kalu admits. “So when I came to this club I knew it was competition to me. I had to step up my game.”
“When they were not using me I was not complaining, I was just reading the game believing God that whenever I get the opportunity I would do better.
“Challenges will always come and when I see the challenges it motivates me a lot to do better,” she concluded.
