Francisca Ordega is looking to continue her impressive form for Washington Spirit in the National Women Soccer League after her spectacular display against Sky Blue.

Ordega scored a double, provided an assist and forced an own goal by the opposing defence as Spirit recorded a 4-3 win over Sky Blue in the US women topflight league.

The Nigeria international became the first African footballer to be named NWSL Player of the Week after helping the club to claiming their first win of the season.

She is confident of winning more awards in the league and also helping her team to reach another NWSL final after losing last year’s championship to Western New York Flash 3-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw on extra time.

“The National Women Soccer League is one of the best league in the world, it’s getting better and tougher every year,” Ordega is quoted on Goal.com

“It is a wonderful experience for me playing in my third season in the US. I’m getting to learn with my every moment here.

“I’m enjoying good support from my teammates, coaches, and fans. They are great people with very good understanding. It’s being so great so far this season.

“There is this saying that no food for lazy man. So if you want to be the best in anything you do, then you have to work extremely hard and that’s what I’m doing.

“For now, I can’t reveal how many goals. But I hope to score more this season as I want is to help my team to reach the Championship final again.”

However, it’s not been a great start to the season for the Spirit as they’ve registered three losses, one draw and a win in five matchdays. They are currently bottom of the table and will face eighth-placed FC Kansas City at the Maryland Soccerplex today, May 20 at 8:00PM (ET)/12:00AM Sunday (GMT)/1.00AM Nigeria time.
