Football Kenya Federation (FKF) women premier league Zone A side, Mombasa Olympic extended their stay at the top of the league with a slim 2-1 win over Soccer Sisters as the league entered the third round over the weekend.
The Joseph Oyoo-coached side has posted an improved performance this season following their back to back wins.
Two-time defending champions Thika Queens cemented their second place on seven points following their 3-0 win over newbies Kayole Starlet.
Soccer Queens who shocked star-studded Spedag to a 5-3 humiliation moved to third place with four points.
This was the second defeat for Spedag who lost their league opener to Mombasa Olympic in the Coastal derby, while this was the first win for Queens who forced the champions to a two-all draw.
Commenting after the match, Soccer Queens coach commended his charges for a job well done adding that this is just the beginning of good tidings this season.
“It was a great match and I give the girls credit for what they have done. We started with a defeat in our league opener against Kayole Starlet but that gave us more reason to train harder,” said Kimani.
Mathare United Women forced a one-all draw against Makolanders in their weekend’s fixture to be at the fourth place with four points ahead of Starlet who have inferior goal difference.
Starlet tactician Joshua Sakwa said inexperience and under-utilization of chances contributed to their defeat.
In zone B, last season’s finalists, Vihiga Queens continued with their smooth run in the league after posting an 8-1 win over Vihiga Leeds. The huge win kept Queens on top of the table standing with points ahead of Wadadia who have seven points.
Wadadia forced a one-all draw against Eldoret Falcons in their weekend fixture.
