Two new players are in line to don the “brown and yellow” jersey of Osun Babes when the 2016/17 Nigeria Women Premier League season resumes on June 21.
Former Abia Angels forward, Mary Anjor and midfielder Ayo Ojo from a Lagos based team are the new additions that have been announced by the Omoluabi Queens.
Coach of the Osogbo-based side, Liadi Bashiru told the club’s media that it is necessary for the team to take advantage of the mid-season transfer window but added that they do not intend to sign too many players.
“It is true we won’t be signing too many players in the mid-season transfer window. I think we have a great team already and that’s why we won’t be signing so many players.
“We just want to keep our squad stable, while we strengthen where is possible.
“We also want to do very well in the second round, as we need to continue with the same momentum we ended the first round of the league.”
Considering that Osun Babes have only managed seven goals in seven matches so far this season, it is expected that Mary Anjor would add bite to an attack that already involves the likes of Ikoyo Rejoice and Edewor Precious.
“I am very positive that the new additions will add value and compliment the efforts of the players we have in place,” Bashiru added.
Osun Babes FC are fifth position in Group B of the NWPL, with 10 points and a lesser goal difference when compared to the 3rd and 4th placed teams also on 10 points.
The second round of the Nigeria Women Premier League will commence on June 21, with Osun Babes playing hosts to Sa’adatu Kolo Amazons FC of Minna at the Osogbo City Stadium.
