Super Falcons defence-marshal Onome Ebi is of the view that the senior women’s national team needs to play top quality friendlies in order to improve in the monthly FIFA Women’s Football World Ranking.
Nigeria remained world number 34 and first in Africa in the latest rankings released by the world football governing body.
The 34-year-old who was part of the squad that won the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations title in Cameroon, believes the team will continue to improve but insist Nigeria needs to play international friendly games.
“First I’m happy we remain the number one in Africa. We found out that our opponents at the last Nations Cup in Cameroon have upped their ante so teams across Africa are improving,” Ebi tells Completesportsnigeria.com.
“We (Super Falcons) don’t have a major tournament this year, 2017, but if we play one or two big friendlies against the top teams and get decent results, that could lift us before the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifiers start next year.
Ebi made 17 league appearances for FK Minsk of Belarus last year, scoring six goals and winning a treble; the Premier League Women, Women’s Cup and Super Women’s Cup titles.
