Kenya Women’s National Team Harambee Starlets, overpowered visiting Division 1 side Lynch Burg FC from USA 4-1 in an international friendly match played at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos Thursday evening.
The team under the guidance of U-20 coach Ann Aluoch, dominated proceedings from the first whistle as expected.
Mwanahalima Adam who makes a return to the national side after she featured last during the Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) against Algeria scored a brace, with midfielder Cheris Avilia and youngster Teresa Engesha scoring one each.
Emily Maxwell scored the consolation goal for the visitors.
This was the first match for Aluoch who was recently elevated to coaching at the national level alongside her assistant Jackline Juma.
As expected, Starlets took the dominance from the whistle with their efforts being rewarded as Engesha notched home an opener in the fifth minute.
Adam saw the back of the net in the 22nd minute after she was set up by Starlets captain Mary Kinuthia.
Four minutes later, Adam who plays for Women Premier League (WPL) side Mombasa Olympic, completed her brace from a solo effort.
Avilia who plies her trade with Spedag in the WPL added a fourth goal from a long range strike from outside the box.
The visiting side got a consolation after Maxwell got a through pass to put the ball past Starlets custodian Pauline Atieno in the 38th minute.
At the break, the Starlets led 4-1 lead but at the start of the second half, the visitors showed a much improved performance but it was the national team that held out for the win after the second 45 minutes.
This was the first outing for Kenya after exiting the group stage of the AWCON finals at Cameroon 2016.
