KeWPL: Exciting matches in the offing as league enters round six this weekend

By Rebecca Magoma

Football Kenya Federation Women Premier League enters the sixth round with exciting matches on the cards in various venues countrywide this weekend.

There will be four matches in each zone.

Makolanders vs Kayole Starlet

In Zone A, Makolanders, who inflicted a first defeat of the season on Mombasa Olympic, will face off against Newbies, Kayole Starlet at Camp Toyoyo Grounds from 1pm.

Makolanders have an upper hand in this fixture following their experience playing the league compared to their opponents who earned promotion to the top tier this season.

Prior to this match, Makolanders have two wins from five matches while Starlet has a single win from four matches.

Mathare United Women vs Spedag

Mathare will be home to Spedag at MYSA Komarock Grounds from 3pm.

This will be the first time the two sides will meet this season following Mathare’s promotion to the top league this season.

The home team will be seeking to use home ground advantage since it has been a good hunting ground for them after picking up four points from a possible six.

Spedag who drew most of their players from the national senior team, Harambee Starlets will use their exposure to counter their opponents.

Spedag has registered dismal performance this season after picking only two wins from five matches.

Double Header

On Sunday, there will be a double header at Camp Toyoyo Grounds as Soccer Queens  host  Mombasa Olympic from 1pm in an earlier kick off before the defending champions, Thika Queens take on Soccer Sisters in the second match of the day.

The champions are yet to taste defeat since last season and this will be an exciting match considering the fact that their second leg match last season ended in a 2-2 draw – the only fixture that the champions dropped points.

Zone B Matches

Vihiga Queens vs Oserian Ladies

It will be a battle for the titans as last year runners up Vihiga Queens host their arch rivals Oserian Ladies at Mumias Sports Complex from 3pm.

Queens are yet to record any defeat this season and their ability to score goals freely may continue in this fixture but it won’t be a walk in the park for the home team because the Flower Girls are not pushovers.

Vihiga Leeds vs Eldoret Falcons

Vihiga Leeds will host Eldoret Falcons at Mumias Sports Complex from 1pm.

This will be a tough fixture for the traveling team considering the fact that they have not picked a win this season.

The team has been having financial challenges this season.

Other Matches

On Sunday, Nyamira Starlets will host newly promoted Palos Ladies at Sironga Stadium from 1pm.

While newcomers, Bulemia will entertain Wadadia at Bumula Polytechnic Grounds from 1pm.
