FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup: Kenya sink hapless Botswana in away qualifier

Kenya U-20 Women National T team started their road to France with a huge 7-1 thumping of Botswana in the first leg of the preliminary round of the CAF U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers at Lobatse Stadium on Friday evening.

Martha Amunyolete and Marjolen Nekeasa netted a brace each with Cynthia Shilwatso, Corazone Aquino and Diana Wacera finding the back of the net once each.

Martha Amunyolete scored her first international goal ten minutes into the match giving the visiting side a lead with Cynthia Shilwatso adding a second in the 18th minute.

Kenya would have gone to the breather with an advantage of 2-0 but the hosts pulled one back with five minutes to the breather with Leano Atlang pulling one back.

On resumption,Kenya continued from where they left Marjolen Nekesa coming in for Rachel Mwema three minutes to the hour mark.

Nekesa didn’t waste time as she added two goals in a span of three minutes (63 and 66) to give Kenya a comfortable lead.

Team captain was not left behind as she scored a fifth in the 87th minute to add salt to the injured Botswana.

Diana Wacera who came into the game as a substitute notched a seventh for Kenya in the dying minutes of the game with Amunyolete completing her brace in the in the 91st minute.

Kenya had an advantage going into the second leg that is set for August 4 at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

The winner from this encounter will face Ethiopia in the first round of the qualifiers.
