Kenya name squad for Cosafa championship

By Rebecca Magoma

Newly appointed Harambee Starlets coach Richard Kanyi has called up 30 players to a residential camp in Kasarani Stadium in preparation for the Cosafa Women Championship set for September 13-24 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

Kanyi guided Women Premier League side Thika Queens to a domestic double last season but stepped down this season due to personal reasons.

He has injected new players in the team and is hoping they will work well with the regulars.

“This is not the end of everything. We are going to give a chance to a player who deserves it. For those who were not selected for this Camp, they will get a chance in the next camp if they prove themselves,” said Kanyi.

In his squad, Kanyi has left out sensational striker Esse Akida who is currently preparing for the Global Goals World Cup competition that is set for next Month in New York with her team Moving the Goal Posts (MTG).

MTG won the continental slot in a competition which was hosted by Kenya. Teams from Ethiopia, Sudan and Uganda took part.
