Kenya U-20 striker Marjoleen Nekesa scored a hat-trick in her maiden appearance for Oklahoma University in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) League on Friday evening.
Nekesa’s goals helped her side pick a comfortable 7-0 win over Southern Western Christian University (SWCU) in their season opener.
The forward who scored a brace for Kenya’s U-20s in their preliminary round of the FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying; a resounding 7-1 win over Botswana, joined the USA side a few weeks ago.
Speaking to LadiesMarch, the former Kenyatta University footballer was impressed with her performance, saying that she is settling in well.
“I liked my performance. Being my first season match, I did well and played according to coach’s instruction. It was tough but was equal to the task,” she said.
The 19-year old who is taking a course in Sports Management at the Oklahoma University intimated that she is expecting much more because her teammates have been supportive and also expect more from her.
“My teammates are so nice, they believe in me a lot and keep expecting the best from me. I will continue doing my best to make sure my team secures a win in each match,” she concluded.
However, the former Butere Girls High School player, will miss the World Cup first round qualifier against the Ethiopia U20s set for September 15, 2017.
