Zimbabwe and South Africa through to COSAFA Women’s final

Defending champions Mighty Warriors of Zimbabwe, overwhelmed Kenya’s Harambee Starlets with a 4-0 semi final win, to book a date with the Banyana Banyana of South Africa in the Cosafa Women’s Championship final

The match was played at Barbourfields Stadium on Wednesday evening and saw Privilege Mupeti, Marjory Nyaumwe, Barita Kabwe and Rutendo Makore each get on the scoresheet.

Banyana Banyana progressed to the finals after they defeated Zambia’s Shepolopolo 5-3 on post match penalities.

Barbra Banda,Grace Chanda and Grace Zulu scored for Shepolopolo before Leandra Smeda’s brace and Rhoda Mulaudzi sent fans delirious after the comeback for South Africa

The epic comeback from 3-0 down was complete in the last 13 minutes left of regulation time.

This will be the third time Zimbabwe and South Africa will be meeting in the finals with each winning once.

The teams met in 2002 where the Banyana triumphed with Zimbabwe claiming their scalp nine years later in 2011.

The final has been set for Sunday.

Kenya will now play Zambia in the third-place play-offs set for Saturday.

This year’s tournament attracted a record of twelve teams from the previous eight.
