The Nigeria Women’s Federation Cup, known as the AITEO Cup, served a cracking semifinal fixture between Nigeria Women’s league Super Four teams.
Reigning champions Rivers Angels came from behind to salvage a 2-2 away draw at Nembe to Bayelsa Queens.
Goals by Macleans Okogba and Anibaba Ayomide in the 27th and 30th minute respectively, gave the Queens a sound first half lead.
However, Rivers Angels head coach Edwin Okon, made early changes in the second half as he brought on Chioma Wogu for Cecilia Nku while Ugo Njoku came on for Chinaza Uchendu in the 48th minute.
It was Wogu who pulled one back for the Port Harcourt side from a goal mouth scramble on 65 minutes, before drama ensued in the dying embers as a handball in the Queens box saw goalkeeper Alaba Jonathan sent off for dissent and Ifeoma Ikenokwalu convert from the spot in the 90th minute.
The reverse fixturewill hold on Wednesday, October 4, at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Meanwhile, the second fixture between Ibom Angels and Confluence Queens did not hold as Abia Angels, the original opponent of Ibom, appealed their disqualification.
AITEO Cup Organizing Committee will meet and take a decision on Tuesday, October 3, 2017.
