Thika Queens have taken an early lead in the table of the Football Kenya Federation Women Premier League following a second consecutive win over the weekend.
Thika mauled Kakamega Leeds 5-0 at Mumias Complex with new acquisition from Mombasa Olympic, Mwanahalima Dogo Adam leading the destruction with a hat-trick. Mercy Achieng who steered the team to a 3-2 win with a brace in their first game against Wadadia was also on target against Leeds with Wincate Kaari also finding the back of the net for the two-time champions.
The Thika-based side are comfortably on top of the table with six points having played two matches.
In another match played at the same venue over the weekend, defending champions Vihiga Queens came from behind to win 4-3 against a rejuvenated Eldoret Falcons.
Terry Engesha scored a brace and a goal apiece from Lilian Adera and Phoebe Owiti made sure the home side picked maximum points in their league opener. Ruth Ingosi, Joyce Chelagat and Janet Bundi scored for the visitors in the hotly contested encounter.
In another match at Mumias Complex, Wadadia put the disappointments of losing their opening match to Thika Queens behind and bounced back to winning ways following a 2-0 win against Palos Women.
Miriam Chelagat and her twin sister Ruth Chebungei scored a goal apiece for the Mumias-based side.
Trans Nzoia Falcons who earned promotion to the top league this season saw off a depleted Mombasa Olympic 6-1 in a match that was played at Mbaraki Sports Club.
Caren Nangila scored a hat-trick with Maureen Khakasa, Tumaini Waliaula and Rael Nambembe scoring a goal each to bag the maximum points for the former Harambee Starlets coach Justine Okiring side.
Commenting after their maiden win in the top league, Okiring told The Standard Sports that they are seeking for a better start in the league adding that their aim in the first season will be to maintain the status.
“We started well and I commend the team for the great performance. I have a young team and they lack experience playing at this level but the way they played against Olympic is a motivator and it shows that good things are on the way,” he said.
