Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, lost their opening game at the WAFU Women’s Championship 1-0 to host Ivory Coast on Wednesday.

Ivorian captain Dominique Thiamalé, registered the only goal of the match five minutes into the second half as black queens striker Jane Ayiayam and Priscilla Okyere both failed to find the back of the net.

Despite Ghana ending the game as the better side, the hosts snatched all points at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny.

Ghana will take on Burkina Faso in a must win encounter on Friday.

The West African giant is using the tournament match as part of its preparations for November 2018 African Women’s Nations Cup tournament as competition hosts.
