In the week 8 of the Nigeria Women Premier League, the match between debutants, FC Robo Queens and Martins White Doves at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos on Saturday, was indeed about one star player, Rashidat Busayo Ajibade.

Skillful Ajibade whose influence for Nigeria’s Flamingoes at the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica, brought her to limelight, displayed class everywhere on the pitch as her team, FC Robo enjoyed a 3-0 victory over their visitors.

The forward, who is also captain of the side, deftly dribbled her way past Martins White Doves’ defenders time and time again, creating chances – most of which were not utilised – then her efforts were crowned with a stunning second half goal, sandwiched by goals from Esther Ndubuisi and Amirat Adebisi.

“I believe what is worth doing at all, is worth doing well,” Ajibade told LadiesMarch after the match when asked about her inspiring performance.

“Most people will say they are not paying you in this thing. Nobody is playing because of money. If you are playing because of money, you won’t get anywhere. One thing is let’s play for the passion, let’s play for our future.

“So I just believe wherever I am I should always make an impact and I thank God for giving me the strength to make impact in the team today (Saturday).”

Ajibade has been nominated for player of the month of July award alongside Alice Ogebe of Delta Queens, Edewor Precious of Osun Babes, Effiom Mabel of Rivers Angels and Tina Oyateleme of Sunshine Queens.

The winner will be announced on Thursday 30th July.
