We know him as the Cameroonian gaffer who stirred the Lionesses to a record round of 16 finish in just their debut tournament.

Before the women’s world cup in Canada, Enow disclosed his team’s objective of surpassing London 2012, the growth of the game and what the team brings to the table

The Interview was conducted in English as Carl Enow Ngachu is a fluent English speaker

This is the team’s first appearance at the World Cup since its inception in 1991. What is the mood and feeling amongst the ladies in the camp and of course the nation?

Everyone I must say is really excited and looking forward to the world cup

The World Cup Trophy was witnessed in your country. Any comment?

For Us, It was a dream come true. When we saw the World Cup, it made us to realize that we will be competing against the best in the world

Cameroon’s 1st and only outing on the World stage was in London 2012 in which the team finished 12th, conceding 11 and scoring just one. Because London 2012 is regarded as a learning curve, what flaws were identified and how has the team improved three years down the line?

(As stated) London was the first participation in a world competition We where novices with no experience but (three years later),  It’s the contrary now.

How has the World Cup preparation been so far in terms of FECAFOOT’S involvement. Satisfactory?

So far, we are satisfied with the preparation but what we need now are international friendly games with world class nations to asses our players (and progress).

Your team faces the defending Champions Japan, 19th ranked Switzerland and 48th ranked Ecuador in Group C. What do you know about the teams you’re expected to face?

No idea about my opponents. Except the fact that Japan is the current cup holder. Ecuador and Switzerland (like us) are also new comers.

Les Lionnes Indomptabl  is known for its physicality. Explain the tactics to be deployed to get your girls to win games? Who are the opposition players you are looking out for in your group?

(Put Simply) To perform well in the world cup your team must count on its own forces. I cannot divulge much.

With Cameroon the least ranked in Group C having slipped down the FIFA ranking to 53rd, Any realistic chance in that group?

Well, We are still learning but in football there are many surprises. Our (main) objective is to perform better than London Olympic games.
What will be the effect of this tournament on women’s football development and subsequent progress in Cameroon?

Many young girls are becoming more and more interested in football. It will be a positive one.

Name the Key Players the world needs to watch out for in your team?

(Watch and See) Everyone is a key player in the group. We don’t have outstanding players

Comment on your assessment of what FIFA has put together for this World Cup?

In my own opinion, I can only be happy with the innovations (and more) of FIFA as regards female soccer.
