Olympic qualifiers: Cameroon book a date with Cote d’Ivoire in final round

Cameroon became the second team to advance to the final stage of the 2016 Olympic Games Qualifier after playing out a 2-2 draw against Ghana on Saturday at the Accra sports stadium.

The result brought the aggregate score to 3-3 as the first leg in Yaounde had ended 1-1, but the Indomitable Lionesses went through on away goals.

They will now face Cote d’Ivoire, who were the first to qualify two weeks ago following Zimbabwe’s withdrawal.

Black Queens had drawn the first blood on 16 minutes through Samira Suleiman to announce their intent of qualification but that was doused as the visiting Lionesses mounted intense pressure and deservedly grabbed an equalizer on the stroke of half time through Ngono Manie.

Two minutes inside the second half, Portia Boakye doubled Black Queens lead but they gave it up when they failed to guard their lines in the 83rd minute, allowing the Indomitable Lionesses pounce through a second half substitute.

The last round of matches comes up in October and Cameroon will be home to Cote d’Ivoire first, before going away to Abidjan for the return leg two weeks later.
