KENYA, October 12, 2017 – Federation of Rwanda Football Association(FERWAFA), is awaiting the world football governing body FIFA to confirm funds before they kick off hosting preparations for the third edition of CECAFA Women’s Tournament that is set for next month.

Speaking to LadiesMarch, Felicite Rwemalika, FERWAFA Executive Committee member in charge of women’s football, revealed that FIFA had promised $330,000 for this year’s edition.

“We had a meeting sometime back, we are waiting for FIFA to confirm the funds so that we put up a LOC, then confirm the dates and start booking of hotels, anyway the logistics,” said the official.

Rwanda popularly known as the She-Amavubi will be out this year, to prove their worth in what will only be their second participation.

They crumbled in the preliminary round in their maiden appearance last year in Jinja,Uganda, a result that saw their head coach Grace Nyinawumuntu, sacked.

Last year, Tanzania overwhelmed Kenya  to win the title with Ethiopia finishing third following a win over Uganda.

CECAFA will be a good competition for teams to gauge their players as preparations for the 11th edition of the Africa Women Cup of Nations(AWCON) qualifiers which kicks off next year in February.

The first edition of CECAFA was held in 1989.
